Damn new-fangled technology
Dammit! I just wrote a long post and was about to copy it so I wouldn't lose anything and now it's gone. I'll try to reconstruct what I can, but most is lost. Stupid technology.
Well... grrrr... I was saying that we're nearly finished with filming. On Sunday we shot Armineh with her best friend of 10 years, Christina. The two girls are so close that they can tell how the other is feeling just by saying hello. It made me miss my own girlfriends. You know who you are. I wish you could all be here with me.
Today we start watching the 15-some hours of footage we've shot so far. It's a bit of a daunting task, but it'll be good to compare my notes with what we've got on tape. We'll watch the tapes at the Yerevan Gamerayin Theater, where we saw their cabaret show on Sunday. That was a riot and a lot of fun.
What else had I written..? Ugh, this is so frustrating. OK, think think...
With shooting nearly done -- all that's left is some b-roll of Yerevan's streets and sights -- our schedule has finally lightened and our days are a bit more restful. Thank God. Sunday was a bit taxing; we were going from one place to the next for nearly 13 hours straight. While I'll be sad to leave Yerevan, I'm starting to look forward to Dubai.
Ah yes, my diet of the last few days. We'll start with Sunday's "khash," a light broth soup with barely cooked (raw?) chicken. You have to load it with salt and garlic to get any flavor, but it wasn't bad. However, I don't plan on making it a regular meal here (or in Glendale, for that matter.)
Today lunch was at a Lebanese restaurant. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I had actually missed hummus. Seven years ago, on my first trip to the Middle East, I ate so much hummus that I haven't been able to it with the same vigor since then. Maybe I'm subconsciously homesick or something, because I gobbled down half the plate and a healthy serving of mohammara, too. Mmm. Mom, I miss your cooking.
After that we stopped by Lotus, a Chinese spot on Sayat Nova, just two blocks from our hotel. That was pleasantly surprising. I didn't eat, but I did taste a few of the dishes. The kung pao chicken and stir-fried beef and mushrooms were particularly tasty and spicy. We've yet to hit any of the three sushi bars, but we may try Arcada, the new one soon.
We eat at Artbridge nearly every day. My current favorite meal is the egg sandwich and mint tea. Last night we had some hot mulled red wine with Shakeh, the owner. Two glasses of that and I slept like a baby.
Enough about food. I can't believe how much I'm eating. The last time I came to Yerevan, I lost 10 pounds in two weeks. Granted it was summer and in that hot weather the only thing I could eat was one shawarma a day. Oh! I finally had Toumanyan Shawarma a few days ago. Ahhh, that hit the spot. I had missed it. I'm afraid this time I'm going to return to the States a bit more plump than I left. Oh well. Just more of me to love. Ha!
